Project Details
Preserving historic buildings requires specialized craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the character of the original structure. As part of the Iowa Capitol Building Window Restoration project, JC Toland Painting completed restoration and protective coating work designed to improve the performance and longevity of the building's historic wood windows. The project focused on windows located along the north and south elevations of the Iowa Capitol. Our team performed wood window repairs, removed deteriorated caulking, and carefully prepared existing surfaces through sanding and paint removal. These restoration efforts helped address areas impacted by age, weather exposure, and normal wear while preserving the architectural integrity of the building.
Once surface preparation was complete, JC Toland applied primer and finish coatings to brick moulding, painted sash components, and window vents. New joint sealants and caulking were then installed to improve weather resistance and help protect the restored assemblies from moisture intrusion.
Historic restoration projects demand a balance between preservation and performance. Through meticulous preparation, repair, and finishing work, JC Toland helped restore key exterior window components while supporting the continued maintenance of one of Iowa's most significant and recognizable landmarks.
