Project Details

Public recreational structures require durable finishes and careful surface preparation to ensure long-term performance, safety, and visual appeal. At the Union Park Rocket Slide, JC Toland Painting provided comprehensive blasting and coating services for a combination of new, re-used, and existing structural components.

All removable steel components were delivered directly to JC Toland’s shop, where they were prepared, blasted, and coated in a controlled environment to ensure consistent surface preparation and finish quality. After completion, these components were transported back to the project site for reinstallation.

For items that could not be removed, our team performed in-place abrasive blasting using full containment methods, including heavy-duty protective tarping to capture and control dust and debris during surface preparation. These efforts primarily included posts, columns, and other structural elements.

The project also included preparation and repainting of designated fiberglass components, restoring their appearance and ensuring consistency across all visible surfaces. In addition, specified floor areas were coated with a non-slip additive to improve safety and durability in high-traffic zones.

By combining shop-controlled blasting and coating with carefully managed field containment work, JC Toland delivered a complete restoration system designed to extend the life and appearance of the historic and iconic Union Park Rocket Slide before it was returned to the park.
