Project Details
The restoration of Hotel Maytag in Newton, Iowa provided JC Toland Painting the opportunity to contribute to the revitalization of one of the community's most recognizable historic landmarks. As part of the building's extensive renovation, our team performed specialty finishing, decorative restoration, commercial painting, and exterior refinishing work throughout the property.
A major focus of the project was preserving and enhancing the building's historic character. The first-floor lobby, dining areas, theater space, and commercial tenant areas were refinished to maintain architectural consistency while supporting the building's modern mixed-use function.
On the second floor, the restoration centered around the property's historic ballroom and lobby spaces. These areas feature intricate plaster details, coffered ceilings, and decorative trim elements that required specialized finishing techniques. JC Toland utilized faux antiquing finishes to accentuate the original craftsmanship, creating depth and character while preserving the timeless appearance of the space.
The project also included restoration of the building's historic exterior marquees. Depending on substrate conditions, surfaces were prepared through abrasive blasting or mechanical methods before receiving a custom patina copper and gold finish. The completed restoration revitalized these prominent architectural features while maintaining their historic significance.
Hotel Maytag showcases JC Toland Painting's expertise in historic restoration, decorative finishes, specialty coatings, and architectural preservation. The completed project successfully balances modern functionality with the craftsmanship and character that have defined this Newton landmark for generations.
