Project Details
The Therkildsen Industrial Engineering Building at Iowa State University is one of the newest additions to campus, which opened for the Fall 2025 semester. This four-story, 80,000-square-foot facility was built to support the university’s growing engineering programs and provide a modern environment for collaboration, innovation, and learning. Unlike renovation projects, this building was constructed entirely from the ground up as a new academic space.JC Toland Painting was proud to contribute to this standout project. From early construction through final completion, our team handled a wide range of finishing work that supports both the appearance and long-term durability of the building.
General contractor Story Construction managed the overall development of the facility.
Our scope included more than standard wall and ceiling coatings. We applied finishes to exposed ceiling decks, structural steel, precast walls, hollow metal doors and frames, handrails, guardrails, and exterior bollards. We also upgraded drywall finishes from level 4 to level 5 using high-build primer and surfacer to ensure a smooth, consistent appearance under strong natural light.
Projects like this demonstrate the value of a contractor experienced in complex institutional construction. These environments require coordination across trades, strict scheduling, and consistent quality across multiple substrates.
We’re proud to have contributed to one of Iowa State’s newest engineering facilities and to support projects that shape Iowa’s educational spaces.
