JC Toland Painting completed a large-scale industrial tank refinishing project for Barton Solvents in Des Moines, Iowa. The project involved the preparation, priming, and coating of 63 solvent storage tanks, demonstrating our expertise in industrial coatings, corrosion prevention, and long-term asset protection.
The scope began with high-pressure washing all tank surfaces to remove contaminants, residues, and environmental buildup. Proper surface preparation is critical to coating performance, ensuring optimal adhesion and maximizing the lifespan of the coating system.
Following surface preparation, our team applied stripe coating to seams, welds, edges, and other critical areas susceptible to premature corrosion. This step reinforced vulnerable points throughout the tanks and provided an additional layer of protection before full coating application.
Once stripe coating was complete, the tanks received an application of Macropoxy 646 epoxy primer. This high-performance industrial coating was selected for its excellent adhesion, corrosion resistance, and durability in demanding industrial environments. The primer established a robust protective barrier and provided the foundation for the final finish system.
The project concluded with the application of a high-solids polyurethane topcoat, delivering superior chemical resistance, abrasion protection, and long-term color retention. The completed coating system provides durable protection against environmental exposure while maintaining a clean, professional appearance.
