We recently partnered with MUSCO Lighting Co. on a “bright” new project, where we literally painted the sun – and we aren’t kidding!
MUSCO Lighting Co. is building a scale model of the solar system and the dome represents the Sun in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
In this model, each of the planets will be mounted on poles in a straight line running north of the dome. On each of the poles representing the planets will be an information kiosk to learn more about that planet. Inside the dome (a.k.a. the sun), will be a learning center for the exhibit.
JC Toland’s painting specialists painted the dome to resemble the surface of the sun, using a painting technique that provides depth and texture to the sun’s surface.
MUSCO Lighting Co. will be installing 4 of their LED Projectors on 80′ poles to be directed at the dome for light shows after dark.
The dome itself is an aluminum structure built and installed by a Texas Company.
It’s not everyday that you get to paint the Sun! We were honored to have worked on this project and provide an educational exhibit to the Central Iowa area.
Here are a few before and afters of the project:
